Pan Fried Mushroom Tikka

Tikka is a dish consisting of marinated pieces of either chicken or vegetarian options like cheese or mushrooms grilled in traditional tandoor with onions and capsicums. This dish has its origin in the Mughal dynasty. Today, there are many variations of this dish available across the world. Tikka recipes are popular in countries like the UK and the Indian subcontinent.


Tikka recipes are always very delightful and loved by everyone. It can be presented as either a perfect starter food or can be party food for any type of occasion.


Today, I am presenting Pan Fried Mushroom Tikka Masala version of the tikka recipe. Tikka can be roasted, grilled or can be pan-fried. I have made this mushroom tikka pan-fried which is simple, quick to cook and flavoursome.


This is a vegan version of Mushroom tikka which is light, gluten-free and very delicious to eat. This recipe is a very good substitute of non-veg starters and will attract the meat-eaters as well.

Ingredients for vegetables and its marination

  • Mushrooms: 550 grams

  • Bell peppers 1 large

  • Onions 2

  • Paprika/red chili powder 1/2 tsp

  • salt as per taste

  • Ginger garlic green chili paste 1 tbsp

  • Chaat Masala/ lemon juice 1 tbsp

For batter

  • Gram flour 4 tbsp approximately

  • Yogurt or curd 3 to 4 as per thickness

  • Cumin powder 1 tsp

  • Salt as per taste (black salt can also be used but optional)

  • Red chili or paprika powder 1 tsp

  • Black pepper powder 1/2 tsp

  • Ginger garlic paste 1 tbsp

  • green chili paste 1 tsp

  • Garam masala 1 tsp

  • lemon juice 1 tsp

  • Coriander powder 1 tsp

  • Dried Fenugreek leaves 1 tsp

  • Oil for frying 1 cup or as per requirement

  • Toothpicks 16 to 18

Method

  • Cut the stems of the mushrooms and also cut onions and bell peppers in small square pieces(roughly to the size mushrooms)

  • Sprinkle on the vegetables,some paprika or red chili powder,salt and chaat masala or lemon juice if you have no chaat masala available.

  • Now rub ginger garlic paste on the vegetables(but not too much) and keep aside.

For the marination with the batter

  • Take large bowl and add all above mentioned ingredients for the batter like gram flour, yogurt, ginger garlic paste,hand crushed fenugreek leaves, black pepper and paprika powder, salt, lemon juice,garam masala and other mentioned spices.

  • Mix all together to make thick batter(check the consistency,it should not be very thin or thick).

  • Now add the already marinated mushrooms, onions and bell peppers into this batter and mix all well.

  • Now insert the marinated vegetables into the toothpicks (with one mushroom and two pieces of onions and bell peppers each in one toothpick).

  • Take large fry pan and pour oil into it and when the oil is heated then add mushroom tikkas one by one and fry them from both sides till golden brown in color.

Serve mushroom tikka with green coriander sauce and some onions.
